William Glenn Johnson, Jr.

Glenn Johnson, 59, of Lebanon, passed away Monday, Aug. 18, 2008. He served in the US Army as a parachute rigger for seven years, was a major fundraiser for Special Olympics, was Board of Director for the Nashville Golf Classic, the first Sara Lee Golf Classic and Cumberland Heights. As a corporate partner of Factory Sales Agency Inc. he installed lighting for the Ryman Auditorium, Shelby Street Bridge, Demonbreun Street Bridge, Monroe Carrell Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Convention Center, LP Field and many other venues.

Glenn became a member of the IESNA early in 1999. He first served as Section Treasurer and then as section President for two terms, 2001/02 and 2002/03. He was chairperson of the Program Committee from 2000, served as Membership Chair for two years and served on the Board of Managers from 2002. Among Glenn’s many suggestions for improving our monthly Section meetings, was securing Nationally recognized speakers to travel to Nashville and give presentations. This meant funds would be required and the money came from educational programs which Glenn organized. Glenn received the Section Service Award on May 17, 2005.

He was preceded in death by father, Glenn Johnson Sr., and grandparents, Willie and Lillie Johnson and Jesse and Clara Baggett. Survivors include: mother, Billie Jean Roney of Hermitage; sister, Kendy (Dwight) Staggs; brothers, Kevin (Sheron) and Bruce (Michele) Johnson; step-mother, Lucy Johnson; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Logan Canter

Logan Canter passed away in his sleep on May 19, 2008, just six days after his 60th birthday. He had moved from his birth place of Oakland, Ca to Miami, FL where he started working at South Dade Electrical Supply. Logan was with Florida Lighting Associates Agency until 1987 when he relocated to Nashville, TN starting his own agency, Tennessee Lighting Sales. When he arrived in Nashville, he found the IESNA Tennessee Valley Section was inactive. Logan took on the responsibility of reestablishing the Section to active status and was successful when the first re-organization meeting was held on a beautiful fall day in 1987. Logan served as Section Officer in the Treasurer and President capacities, and most recently served many years on the Section Board of Managers. He was a sponsor of the South Central Southeastern 1998 Bi-Regional Conference. Logan presented topics at the Tennessee Section meetings and taught different modules during the two times the IESNA ED-150 course was offered. Logan became a Member of the IESNA in 1982 and was presented with the IESNA Section Service Award on October 15, 2002. Logan said “It is a great honor for me.” He had been instrumental in the lighting industry for 38 years. Logan is survived by his wife, Diane Canter and his son L.W. Canter. A favorite expression was “Every Day is a Gift”. Logan will be missed by many.
